About Allan Blake Tailfeathers
"In 2018, after a life-changing event involving law enforcement, I entered a period of deep reflection and healing. I committed myself to recovery through three months of detox followed by completion of two treatment programs. This experience became a blessing in disguise—allowing me to rediscover my true self and purpose.
Following my recovery, I worked collaboratively with Children’s Services for one year until my case was successfully closed. Inspired to help others, I began sharing my story of resilience with communities across southern Alberta. My dedication to healing and education led me to pursue a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Addictions Counselling at the University of Lethbridge, graduating in 2024.
Recognizing the powerful role horses played in my own healing journey, I trained with the H.E.A.L. Alliance and became a Certified Equine-Assisted Therapist. Today, I serve as an Addiction Counsellor III with Recovery Alberta/Alberta Health Services, while also operating my own business—The Healing Journey Begins Equine Therapy.
For over a year, I have partnered with Kainai Healing Lodge to offer a clinically informed, culturally grounded equine therapy program that has become one of the community’s most impactful healing initiatives.
My life mission is to empower others to heal, rediscover hope, and reconnect with their spirit—because recovery is not just about overcoming addiction but about becoming who we were always meant to be."
