The University of Lethbridge expresses its condolences to the family, friends and former colleagues of Margot Bailes, who passed away July 21, 2025, at the age of 79.
Bailes was born in West Vancouver, B.C. where she lived until moving to Winnipeg, MB in 1954 and spent the majority of her youth. She moved to Calgary, AB to begin her adult life and eventually relocated to Lethbridge.
Having received education in business administration, she enjoyed a long career in the Department of Materials Management at the University of Lethbridge. Over the course of her 23-year career (1980-2003) at ULethbridge she developed and maintained some of her greatest working relationships. She began in Materials Management as a clerk typist, a position she held for nine years, before moving into a buyer role. Bailes then managed the department for the final two years of her time on campus.
She later moved on to Alberta Health Services as Director of Purchasing, finishing her working career there before settling into retirement.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Bailes at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St Augustine's Anglican Church (411-11 St S Lethbridge, AB). The University of Lethbridge will lower its flag on the day of her service.
