The Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) is seeking an Executive Director.
Start Date: September 5, 2023
Hours: 25 hours per week
Salary: $33,000.00 annual salary
LPIRG offers a full benefits package (through the ULSU Blue Cross) and flexible work hours and location.
We are seeking an experienced individual who will contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) as the lead staff person.
LPIRG is a student-funded, student-directed, not-for-profit organization providing resources for undergraduate and graduate students to engage with environmental and social justice issues.
LPIRG is funded by an undergraduate and graduate per-student levy fee, and has a strong responsibility to the University of Lethbridge student community. LPIRG embraces plurality and participation, and encourages students to critically evaluate the institutions and systems in which they take part. LPIRG assists students in translating their knowledge through research, education, and action to serve public interest.
LPIRG is looking for a candidate with experience in organizing and administrative work, and a commitment to the work of community building. The Executive Director is the lead staff person for LPIRG and acts as a support to ensure the operations of LPIRG are managed well and that the Board of Directors are supported in their capacity to set and drive the vision of LPIRG forward. This position is best for a self-driven person with a strong sense of time and project management, and who is comfortable working independently without day-to-day oversight. LPIRG operates with a guiding value system of working towards equity and inclusive community building on and off the University of Lethbridge campus.
The LPIRG Executive Director is responsible for:

financial management and record keeping;
-
Annual financial and non-profit reporting to the Government of Alberta;

creating, updating and maintaining monthly and yearly financial reports;

supervising any staff;
-
maintenance of the LPIRG website, social media accounts and Mailchimp;

Primary point person for LPIRG contact and emails and funding requests;
-
further development and maintenance of the LPIRG Alternative Library;

Supporting board members with policy development;
-
Supporting board members with event and project planning;
-
research and development of LPIRG special events including speaker and film series;
-
supporting the development and implementation of public awareness campaigns for the community and the U of L campus;

organizing workshops and assisting action groups with projects in the public interest;

Main contact and point person for on-campus departments, clubs, organizations and groups;

Point person for liaising with community groups in the Lethbridge area.
The ideal candidate will have experience/knowledge in:

administrative and record keeping including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software, basic financial transactions, on-line tools, website maintenance, and e-mail;

great attention to detail and accuracy;

highly comfortable with engagement and community work;
-
experience with not-for-profit organizations, boards, and community work;

experience with budget planning and business correspondence.
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently. A commitment to the goals and objectives of LPIRG is required.
LPIRG offers flexible working hours, an on-campus office and the ability to work remotely as much as possible.

Interviews will take place August 28 - 29. We are ideally looking for someone to start September 5, 2023, but that is negotiable.
