The appalling attack on a professor and two students at the University of Waterloo is of concern to Canada’s post-secondary community and is an example of the continued work that must continue to eliminate gender-based violence, and all forms of hate, from our institutions and society. We unequivocally condemn this hate-based attack.
Campus community members who identify as Two‑Spirit, trans, non‑binary, queer, gender non‑conforming and women must be made to feel safe and empowered and the University of Lethbridge needs to continue to lead efforts to disrupt gender-based violence on our campuses and within our communities. The success of our institution and the success of our students and the communities we serve will only be realized if we are able to provide an environment that is safe and actively repels hateful actions. The University can be proud of much work we have done in this space, but our collective journey must continue with constant improvements being made.
Counselling Services are available for our community. Students can access support by calling 403-317-2845 or send an email to counselling.services@uleth.ca. The Employee and Family Assistance Program is available for faculty and staff.
