The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of alumnus and University of Letbridge Pronghorns men's soccer team assistant coach Marcus Karpati (BA/BEd '10), who passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Originally from Victoria, BC, Karpati joined the men’s soccer program in 2004 and went on to play five seasons for the Horns. In his time on the pitch, Karpati became one of the team's leaders and an anchor on the Horns defensive core.
Following his graduation from the U of L in 2010, Karpati stepped directly into an assistant coaching role with the men's soccer program, a role he flourished in over the last six seasons.
In addition to his involvement with the soccer program, Karpati was also an instructor for sport and recreation summer camps and continued to do so early into his teaching career.
A teacher at Fleetwood Bawden Elementary School, Karpati’s other passion was working with children. In tribute to this, the Pronghorn men’s soccer program dedicated Karps’ Korner at the University Community Stadium this season. Karp's Korner will be a playground at the stadium that is being built to recognize and honour Marcus and his contributions to both the Lethbridge and University Community.
The Pronghorn Athletics family would like to pass on heartfelt condolences to Karpati’s wife Kathy, his parents, Joan and Julius, and the rest of his family. A full obituary notice can be found in the Lethbridge Herald.
Those wishing to make memorial donations to either Karp's Korner or the Pronghorns Men's Soccer Alumni Scholarship can contact Heather Anderson at 403-329-2228.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge.
