The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of Sharon Malec, who passed away on Sunday, August 8 at the age of 73 years.
Malec was a member of the University Senate as a representative of the U of L Alumni Association from 2011 to 2017. During that time, she was also a member of the outreach and honorary degree committees.
Born in Vulcan, Malec lived in Medicine Hat and Calgary, eventually settling in Fort Macleod, where, through teaching, she met and married her husband Roy. After relocating to Lethbridge, she began teaching music, as well as Foods and Religious Education. In addition to the U of L Senate, Malec was involved with the music ministry at her church and numerous other activities. An obituary is available online at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
Funeral prayers have been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church located at 643 12B Street North. The U of L will lower its flag that day in honour of Malec.
