Join us to learn more about how you can more effectively understand the threat or risk associated with your research, social media presence, or community activism, and what you can do to minimize harm. The workshop will be held in two sessions. However, you do not need to attend both.

April 13 | Noon to 1:30 p.m. | Threat Modelling
This interactive training walks participants through the practical process of building a threat model from the ground up. We identify key assets, likely threat actors, realistic risks, and the vulnerabilities that make those risks possible, then map them into concrete scenarios and prioritize them based on likelihood and impact. The session is designed to move beyond abstract security advice and help individuals or organizations engaged in potentially risky research develop tailored, actionable protections grounded in their actual exposure.
April 16 | Noon to 1:30 p.m. | Cybersecurity 101
This workshop introduces participants to 10 of the most effective low-effort, high-return cybersecurity practices they can adopt to reduce risk in the course of research. Focusing on practical steps such as stronger authentication, safer browsing, secure communications, device hygiene and data protection, the session is designed to help practitioners make meaningful security improvements without needing advanced technical expertise. The goal is to build a proactive baseline of digital safety that reduces exposure to common threats before problems emerge.
These workshops are generously sponsored by the Office of the Vice-President Research.
There is no fee for this event, but participants must register.
