with Fight Master Laryssa Yanchak

Have you ever wondered how to fight on stage?
Have you ever asked yourself, “Can I do that?”

If so, look no further! Join us for unarmed stage combat workshops with fight director Laryssa Yanchak as she teaches you how to creative the illusion of physical violence on stage! Workshops create a foundation for theatrical stage combat utilizing specialized movements and techniques to viscerally engage the audience through the appearance of physical violence while maintaining safety. Workshops address not only pulls, pushes, punches, slaps, and kicks but also the critical acting elements required to make the physical actions appear realistic including knaps, reactions, and timing.

Workshop I
Unarmed Stage Combat I: Fundamentals
10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Workshop introduces common unarmed combat moves and safety.

Workshop II
Unarmed Stage Combat II: Complex
1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Workshop focuses on perfecting the fundamentals and building to more complex moves and holds.

FREE and open to all students. No experience required.

About Laryssa Yanchak

With almost 20 years of professional experience specializing in fight direction and instruction, Laryssa is Canada's first and only accredited female Fight Master associated through Fight Directors Canada. She is recognized as a professional in her field through both ACTRA and Equity and is Canada's first female to have received an award for fight directing in the professional theatre community.

As a performer, Laryssa specializes in physical theatre, clown and aerial circus and has worked in both theatre and film as a stunt double, actor and coach.
