On Thursday 18 September 2014 Scotland will be holding a referendum on becoming independent from the United Kingdom.  A “yes” vote is backed by the regional government of the Scottish National Party.  What might happen in the referendum and afterwards?  What are the arguments for and against Scottish independence?  What has been Scotland’s history within the United Kingdom and indeed before this?  What is Scotland’s current constitutional status, and how has this evolved?  This talk will give an overview of the context, the background and issues, and the consequences of this referendum.
