Prentice Institute Brown Bag: Practical Reconciliation of Alberta-Indigenous Relations

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

In 2015, five days prior to the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) final report,    Premier Rachel Notley apologized for Alberta’s role in the residential school system and called for a “fundamental shift” in the Alberta-Indigenous relationship. Unfortunately,  Alberta continues to make limited  progress towards reconciliation.

The presentation will explore why challenges remain while offering recommendations for change that could be the first steps towards ‘recovering the relationship.’

Dr. Yale D. Belanger (Ph.D.) is professor of Political Science at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta), and a Member, Royal Society of Canada, College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists (2017-2024).  He is also a Prentice Institute Affiliate
