The Resource Curse: The Challenges of Managing an Economy Dependent on Volatile Commodity Prices

Tensions arise in the exploitation of natural resources by Canada and the provinces, when considering the volatile nature of international demand and pricing of commodities. In balancing the interests of resource producers, future generations, global commodity booms, and politics, Canada’s land policy and resource development has continued to change. The McBride Special Timber Licenses in British Columbia will be used as an example for understanding successful resource based development.
