The Persian Islamic mystical tradition includes one of the most widely read love traditions in the world. What were its origins? How did it begin? The lecture will examine the manner in which the Aspirations (Savanih) of Ahmad al-Ghazali (d. 1123 CE) inaugurated this mystical literary tradition of love.
