Protecting Intellectual Property – the Dos and Don’ts

Are you a student, faculty, post-doctoral fellow, or staff member interested in learning about intellectual property and how to protect your IP?

Perhaps you are curious about how to register copyrights for literary works, software code or musical works.

Perhaps you have created a new technology and are curious about how to patent it or protect it through trade secrets.

Do you know the benefits of trademarks? What plant breeders' rights are?

Please join Marnie Fyten, Intellectual Property Advisor, with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) on Tuesday, November 15th at noon. Her 30-minute presentation will be followed by Q&A. She will provide an introduction to the six main kinds of IP, tips on how to avoid five common IP mistakes that innovators make, where to find free online learning tools and resources to learn more and develop an IP strategy.
