Designing Your Life: Navigating Graduate School, Career Decisions, and What's Next

Graduate school can be exciting, rewarding, and sometimes overwhelming. Between research, coursework, teaching, and planning for the future, it's easy to feel pressure to have everything figured out. You may be wondering what comes after your degree, exploring different career options, feeling stuck between choices, or simply questioning your next steps.

Designing Your Life offers a practical and creative approach to navigating uncertainty. Based on the popular Stanford course developed by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, this interactive workshop applies design thinking principles to help you explore possibilities, make decisions with greater confidence, and build a future that aligns with your interests, values, and goals.

Presented by Emily Brown, Counsellor, Counselling Services, this 1.5-hour workshop will help you:

  • Challenge limiting beliefs and patterns of stuck thinking
  • Reframe uncertainty as an opportunity for exploration and growth
  • Explore multiple career and life pathways, both inside and outside academia
  • Develop practical strategies for testing ideas and moving forward with confidence
  • Take action through small, low-risk experiments rather than feeling pressured to have all the answers

Whether you're considering academic, industry, government, non-profit, or other career paths, this workshop will provide tools to help you navigate graduate school and the transitions ahead with greater clarity, curiosity, and purpose.

If you're feeling uncertain about what's next, join us and discover how design thinking can help you create a meaningful path forward.

Plus, attendees are entered to win a copy of the Designing Your Life Workbook.
