The Demography of Human Capital Formation and Sustainable Development

People are the agents of global change and at the same time are the victims of what we do in terms of causing climate change and other challenges to human well-being. Demography is the systematic quantitative study of the changing size and composition of human populations. The tools of multi-dimensional demography, which studies changing human populations not only with respect to age and gender but also in terms of educational attainment and health (human capital), allow us to reconstruct and forecast human capital formation for all countries for 1950-2100 and show how education is a key to sustainable development, including adaptation to climate change.
