Co-operative Education Work Term Presentations with special guest speaker Ms. Sara Bohnert, DRDC
Please join us as we welcome Ms. Sara Bohnert to campus to discuss the science, technology and knowledge at DRDC.

About the Speaker
Ms. Sara Bohnert was born and Edmonton and raised in Lethbridge where she graduated from the University of Lethbridge in 2005 with a BSc in Biochemistry. Throughout high school and University Ms. Bohnert spent her summers working for Promax Agronomy Services. In 2006 she started working at Defense Research and Development Canada – Suffield Research Centre (DRDC-SRC) as a Research Technologist. Initially at DRDC-SRC Ms. Bohnert was responsible for the establishment of the Good Laboratory Practices program: a highly regulated quality research system that allows for medical research to be conducted under guidelines that allow for the data gathered to be used towards regulatory submissions across the globe While working in Suffield Ms. Bohnert completed a MSc in Pharmacology in 2014 with a focus in Pharmacokinetics through the University of Saskatchewan. Ms. Bohnert continues to work at DRDC-SRC now as a Biologist/Researcher with a focus on medical product development for the Canadian Armed Forces. In particular Ms. Bohnert’s primary area of research is focusing on brain injury following chemical insult and a result of chemical warfare exposure and the examination of potential novel therapies, biomarkers and diagnostics. Additionally Ms. Bohnert continues to conduct research related to medical diagnostics and their application for the military, continued development of novel medical countermeasures against chemical threats, examination of brain injury following a physical insult (traumatic brain injury) and development of novel non-traditional therapies such as plant based bioscavengers.
Ms. Bohnert's talk will be followed by several co-op student work term presentations, including:

- 1 Biological Sciences student who worked at the University of Lethbridge
- 1 Biochemistry student who worked at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
- 1 Masters Biochemistry student who worked at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)
