Careers in Scholarly and Research Communication

Are you interested in work in scientific or academic publishing? Many students from across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities find productive careers working in this area.

Jennifer LaLoup is an editorial manager at the Public Library of Science (PLoS). She graduated from Colorado State University with degrees in Speech Communication and Technical Journalism.  Shortly after graduation, she began to work for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS where she assisted their Science Unit.  This event initiated Jen’s interest in sharing scientific developments with a broader audience.  She decided to make the move to San Francisco where her internship with Wired Magazine increased her enthusiasm for open-access information.  In her spare time, she enjoys developing her baking expertise and all things outdoors.

In this talk she will discuss the career experiences of her editorial team and take questions about careers in the industry.
