The force is strong in the David Spinks Theatre, 7:30 pm nightly, Feb. 14 – 18 for the next drama Mainstage, The Boy’s Own Jedi Handbook by Stephen Massicotte. Capturing the cultural essence of the phenomenal Star Wars franchise, experienced from the imagination of a young boy, this production takes audiences on a nostalgic journey back to an era we can all relate to – our childhood.

The year is 1977 and The Kid, a ten-year-old Star Wars fan is trying to make sense of a new town and school. He soon discovers that Star Wars hasn’t just influenced his life, but others around him too, and new friendships are born from a common love for the iconic characters and their stories. 

“On the surface this is a play about Star Wars, and fans will love how this specific cultural phenomenon affected a generation. The themes of the play are universal though – it’s about the innocuous experiences that in the mind of a child are all big and influential moments,” says Jeremy Mason (’05, BFA), director.

“It’s a relatively contemporary Canadian play, having been written and produced in 1997,” Mason adds. “Audiences will love how physical, and high energy our production is, and it will not only make audiences think, but also is very entertaining.”

With set designed by Lee Burckes, and costumes by Jorge Sandoval, The Boy’s Own Jedi Handbook is an immersive, imaginative and magical play. Full of pop-culture references, movie nostalgia and a roller-rink, the David Spinks Theatre comes alive with fun and energy.
