
This October, Albertans will vote in a referendum on the issues of Alberta separation from Canada, immigration, and the Canadian constitution.The referendum results are almost entirely non-binding but will determine a path for our provincial government and will impact all of Canada.
Join us for a series of panels presented by U of L Faculty. Together, we will explore the context of the referendum and unpack the issues of Alberta separation and treaty, the constitution, and immigration. See the attached general schedule for panel times; the panel topics and speakers are:
- Albertans as Prairie, Democratic Subjects with Dr. Susan Dieleman and Miranda Leibel
- The Referendum(s) and the Constitution with Drs. Megan Aiken, Yale Belanger, and Trevor Harrison
- Separation and Treaty Issues with Drs. Lars Hallstrom and Don McIntyre
- Scapegoating and Separatists: Why Immigration is on the Ballot with Drs. Bronwyn Bragg, Stephanie Kerr, and Amy Mack
