9.00 a.m. Left Camp by special coaches for the TROOPING THE COLOUR. It was not possible to make special arrangements for members to see this ancient ceremony but seats were reserved facing Buckingham Palace from where an excellent view was obtained of the Procession in both directions and for the MARCH PAST at the conclusion of the ceremony.


Unfortunately, I only had my Brownie and 8mm camera. Here's the result.

1.00 p.m. Lunch at the ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY.


2.30 p.m. Visit to the HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT under special arrangements made by the Secretary of the United Kingdom branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Major J. G. Lockhart, C.B.E.

We were entertained to Tea in the Harcourt Room where we were joined by the following Members of Parliament who had kindly consented to show us around both Houses: Mr. Beverley Baxter. Mr. Hector Hughes, Mr. Harvey Nicholls, Mr. C. L. Orr-Ewing, Captain R. E. D. Ryder. Wing-Commander E. A. A. Shackleton, Mr. Ted Leather.

6.00 p.m. Buffet supper at the ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY.

7.30 p.m. Under special arrangements made by Sir Steuart Wilson, Deputy Administrator of the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE, Covent Garden, the Canadian group joined with Youth from other parts of the Commonwealth in seeing the second performance of the new Coronation opera, GLORIANA, by Benjamin Britten.
