The sign reads as follows:

In 1832 Peagan Post, or Old Bow Fort as it was later called, was constructed by the Hudson's Bay Company four miles north of this point, on the Bow River, in an attempt to win back the Blackfoot trade from the American Fur Company. Construction was not completed until 1833 when it was occuped by a group headed by J.E. Harriott and John Rowand. Some trade was attempted, but by January 1834, difficulties with the Blackfoot forced its closure.

You will notice the sign inscription has changed over the years.
