James Hector's Grave - 1996

"Prompted by the sorry state of James Hector's grave shown on your website, I took my children Marieke (11) and Martijn (9) to explore the nearby Taita cemetery.

It did not take long to find the Hector family grave, and I'm pleased to report that the monument has been tidied up - if not restored to its former glory.

The gravestone is now topped by a small pyramid, but the largish obilisk (shown in your picture on the web) is no longer to be found."

Dr. Jaaperse also sent along a picture taken from his home showing Taita cemetery in the distance.
