Nothing is too good for them

October 27, 2005 — Miltenberg - Wurzburg

We disembarked after breakfast for a tour of the old Franconian town of Miltenberg with its pretty, cobblestone lanes lined with gabled, half-timbered houses. Here we visited an old Jewish cemetery,

From Miltenberg, it was a motor coach trip to beautiful Wertheim. We explored Wertheim on our own then went to the riverbank to view the arrival of the River Duchess.

In the afternoon, we were off to Wurzburg. The most prominent landmark is the Fortress Marienberg which was the home of the prince-bishops in Wurzburg from 1201 to the 18th cenury when they moved to the magnificent Prince Bishop's Residence Palace. (Nothing is too good for them.)

Again, we had time to roam on our own. A bookshop revealed some pictures of just how bad it was during World War II.

As darkness approached we returned to the ship now docked in Lohr. That evening, with medieval entertainment we sailed to Karlstadt for an overnight there.
