8.30 a.m. Left Chester for GLASGOW, via the Lake District, taking packed lunches, and making a short halt at CARLISLE en route.

Carlyle Castle founded by William Rufus in 1092 was once a prison for Mary Queen of Scots.

7.30 p.m. Arrived at Victoria League headquarters, 166, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, and proceeded to Dinner at the Ivanhoe Hotel with members of the committee. The Scotland programme was arranged in co-operation with The Victoria League in Scotland, Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch (Honorary Secretary: Lady Small).

Since 1907 the Victoria League in Scotland has given support to not only Empire (Commonwealth) students but all international students studying at Universities/Colleges in Scotland. It is a non-religious, non-political, world-wide organisation whose sole aim is the promotion of international friendship. Help is offered through linking students with families, organising ceilidhs and organising a programme of Spring/Summer coach outings to places in Scotland

I stayed at Maclay Hall, University of Glasgow and took an 8mm movie from my window.
