Monday, June 8, 1953
1.45 p.m. Visited the GOLDSMITHS' HALL for the exhibition of the "Treasures of Oxford" which was shown by Mr. G. Hughes, who welcomed the group on arrival.

" Goldsmith's Hall " engraved by W.Angus, published in The Beauties of England and Wales, 1811. Copper engraved print with recent hand colour.
Three halls have stood on this site, owned by The Goldsmiths' Company that was incorporated in 1327 with the duty of assaying and stamping gold and silver plate. The hall contains many fine pictures and a wonderful collection of plate and is used for prestigious banquets.

At 3.00 p.m. we had a walk through the City to BEAVER HOUSE where the group was entertained to tea by the Governor, Mr. W. J. Keswick, and the Governors of Hudson's Bay Company.

After tea, and following the presentation of a Coronation souvenir to each guest, the party was divided into small groups and shown around by members of the Technical Staff of the Company.

Fifty years later the headquarters of the HBC is now in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

6.00 p.m. Dinner at the ROYAL EMPIRE SOCIETY.

At 7.30 p. m. we proceeded by coach to see the ROYAL TOURNAMENT at Earls Court by invitation of the Secretary, Major C. W. King.

Over the years the Royal Tournament has fallen on hard times.
