Facilities and Equipment

The University of Lethbridge has provided our department with a number of teaching and research labs, including an archaeology, physical sciences and GIS/remote sensing lab for general use by members of the department and their students. Our faculty also have additional personal research lab space. Our GIS lab contains high end computers and ESRI software (including ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcGIS), remote sensing and image analysis software ENVI and PCI. We also have a digitiser and a full size (40-inch) colour plotter.

Departmental field equipment includes a new state-of-the-art Total station, and excellent DGPS system, navigational GPS systems, stream flow probes, and a selection of additional geographical and archaeological field equipment. The department also has a rock and fossil collection, an aerial photograph collection, and soil laboratory equipment and the University Library has an extensive map collection.

With our building being situated in the coulees of the Oldman River and our proximity to the Rocky Mountains, the prairies, numerous rivers and the Milk River Ridge, as well as to agricultural and a variety of urban centres, our department offers an excellent starting point for field-based research and teaching.
