The altitude of the summit level was by barometric measurement 731 feet above the valley of the Kananaskis River.

- John Palliser

Gillean Daffern's Kananaskis Country Trail Guide lists a height gain of 699 for Elk Pass and 2149 feet for North Kananaskis Pass.

Palliser was an experienced explorer. The numbers are right on for Elk Pass. It is hard to believe he was crossing the North Kananaskis Pass as the "experts" would lead us to believe.
