In August 1858, members of the Palliser Expedition penetrated the Rocky
Mountains searching for a suitable route for a proposed railway.
For generations it has been accepted that while James Hector was exploring
the Banff Park area and Thomas Blakiston was exploring the Waterton Park
area, John Palliser was going over the North Kananaskis Pass.
Is it possible historians are wrong?
Mr. Larry Boyd, a long time trail guide and rancher in the area, has
long taken an interest in John Palliser's explorations through Kananaskis
Country. He says the so called "experts" are wrong. Boyd believes
that Palliser went over today's Elk Pass.
