In 1977 I took my students into the Livingstone Gap where we looked in vain for any remains of Peter Fidler's "Old Man's Playing Field" Had"the field" been destroyed when the roadway was built or had the rocks been torn away in a flood?

Almost 15 years later I returned with my old high school teacher, Jim Cousins. His masterful storytelling ability had years before inspired me to follow in the footsteps of our early explorers. Hopefully, I had as much impact on some of my students as he had on me.

Dr. Cousins who in later years started a junior college and became the first history professor at a newly established university was interviewed at the site for Peter Fidler's 1992 Bicentennial Celebrations.
