Colonel Mason was more particular than ever in the placing of pickets, our little camp being completely surrounded by them, out beyond the grazing herd. This night the entire command went to sleep with a confidence that everything was safe, it being the first time many of us had taken off all our clothes, on retiring, since the Clearwater battle.
