Musselshell Meadows, south of the road from Musselshell Work Center, was site of the first Nez Perce camp after leaving Weippe.

Two weeks later, General Howard's troops also camped here. In the 1890s, after Weippe Prairie was settled, Musselshell Meadows became a prime camas-gathering ground. Traditional women still come here to dig camas with their special camas-digging sticks.
