June 8, 2008 — Sapporo, Japan

At 10, Mr. Mori arrived to take us to Takino Suzuran Hillside Park for a beautiful walk to three waterfalls. For lunch, we were invited to enjoy a Ghengis Kahn (lamb barbecue) but Joan's aversion to mutton kicked in and we went with beer and sausage. We stopped by the fishing hole with its elaborate stocking system that appeared to almost guarantee a catch.

Returning to the guesthouse we stopped at the site of the oldest Wisteria in Supporo. Later Mr Kikuchi came to say good-bye and wish us well and then Mr. Mori drove us to the Sapporo Grand Hotel. It had been a glorious week being treated like royalty. A sharp contrast to what we would be doing soon — traipsing through the wilds of Siberia.

After settling in, we enjoyed authentic Japanese fruit a gift from Mr. Mori then took a walk past Odori Park (in dance mode) and over to the Mitsukoshi food floor a favorite spot of old.

The day ended with a light meal put on by Zegrahm Expeditions.
