June 5, 2008 — Sapporo, Japan

Fumi and Hiroko Kikuchi picked us up and our first endeavor was a continuing but in vain attempt to repair the camera. Many had tried but none succeeded. With a purchase of a new camera our three day ordeal was over. Fortunately, the foolishness hadn't happened later in the Russian far east. (As an aside, we were able to get the sick camera working again once we got home)

This was followed with a tour of the Asahi Brewery along with a taste test and then another Japanese food experience. This time Ramen - hot and spicy - it was great. We next stopped at Mr. Kikuchi's house where we met the children and he found a web site where we could get Englsh instructions on how operate our Japanese camera.

As evening approached we were taken to Suskino for dinner with the Hokkai teachers. A highlight was receiving a doll made by Mrs. Sasahara

This was followed by the traumatic experience of losing the poor thing. But happily, she returned safe and sound the next day.
