Best Practices
The first and most important guideline for maximizing student attention to educational video is to keep it short. A study done analyzing results from 6.9 million video-watching sessions. They observed that the median engagement time for videos less than 6 minutes long was close to 100% – that is, students tended to watch the whole video. As videos lengthened, however, student engagement dropped, such that the median engagement time with 9- to 12-minute videos was ∼50%, and the median engagement time with 12- to 40-minute videos was ∼20%

If you are looking for a space where you can use a whiteboard in your video the Lightboard Studio might work for you.

The studio is available for faculty and other course instructors to use in support of their teaching. Only one person will allowed to use the studio at a time

The studio is centrally located in Markin Hall (M2039)
Once you schedule your appointment you will receive information on how to access Markin Hall.

You will need a USB drive with at least 2GB of space to copy your videos to.

If you are using the tv in the room for presentations you will need a laptop that will connect to the tv via HDMI. If you don’t have a laptop there is a Mac laptop in the room you can use.

The studio is set up for both lectures and/or lectures with a presentation. If you require a whiteboard to write on we have a Lightboard Studio available for use as well.
