The University’s Respiratory Protection Program has been developed to comply with the AB OHS Code Part 18, Personal Protective Equipment, to reduce or eliminate potential harm to employees who may be exposed to respiratory health hazards. It includes:
- A RESPIRATORY PROTECTION CODE OF PRACTICE governing the selection, maintenance and use of respiratory protective equipment as required by Part 18 of Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Code
- The University’s respiratory protective practices for controlling potential exposures to airborne contaminants
- Health screening and mandatory fit-testing for anyone who is required to wear respiratory protective equipment
- Training for the selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment
Workers will complete training and fit-testing PRIOR to wearing a respirator in accordance with the University's Respiratory Protecton Code of Practice.
A fit-test is the use of a qualitative or a quantitative method to evaluate the fit of a specific make, model and size of a respirator for an individual. This is an important safety requirement to ensure an effective facial seal to protect the worker's health.
RESPIRATOR USE INSTRUCTION SHEETS are provided in the RESOURCES below.
