Amy von Heyking

Associate Professor of Education

Amy von Heyking’s research interests include history of Canadian schooling, citizenship education and children’s historical thinking. Her academic publications include articles in Historical Studies in Education, Canadian Journal of Education, History of Education Quarterly and Alberta History. She authored chapters in New Possibilities for the Past: Shaping History Education in Canada (UBC Press, 2011) and Britishness, Identity and Citizenship: The View From Abroad (Peter Lang, 2011). She is the author of Creating Citizens: History and Identity in Alberta’s Schools (University of Calgary Press, 1996) and coeditor of Becoming a History Teacher (University of Toronto Press, in press). She serves on the executive board of THEN/HiER (The History Education Network/Histoire et Éducation en Réseau).
