Whitman Mission

The mission was founded at Waiilatpu among the Cayuse in 1836 by Marcus and Narcissa Whitman. They carried on work there under the auspices of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions for 11 years.

The Whitmans were massacred shortly after Kane's visit.
