Aug 4. Left Camp shortly after 7 A.M. with Capt. Anderson & parties, & travelled on about 13 m. to a small lake. Passed the Hoop (or Whoop!) Up road 51/2 W. of morning camp running across the line trail nearly at right angles. Saw Asheís people surveying near where we lunched & soon Ashe himself appeared & had some lunch with us. Travelled on again to the second crossing of Milk R. or at least of one of its principal tributaries which flows N. Eastward across the line (3/4 m). Featherston has his last station here. Found East & Crompton just returned from a reconnaissance to the base of the mountains. Report much rough
