Green (2) supposing Gregory (3) by this time to have established his station W. of White Mud R.

Twining (4) with Dr. Coues (5) are following up the Milk R. to the line. Got back to camp before dark.

Got a note from Boswell (6) dated July 3, Woody Mtn. stating that he &.Herchmer (7) had arrived. Also that Rowe not much better when they passed. Burgess recommends him to go to New York for advice. Enclosed a note from P. and a letter from W. The former dated May 25 & stating that Report at last out.

Limestone, weathering white 78

Granite, gneiss & similar highly metamorph. rocks. Probably Laurentian. Much white felspar a noticable feature 101

Garnetiferous gneiss (two with much black rims[?]) 4

Quartz, crystalline 6

Chert 2

Cryst. hornblende & felspar rock 3

Soft yellowish sandstone (local) 5

Fragments of ironstone nodules (lode[?]) 18

Blackish hornblendic & felspathic [?] rocks, some might be called diorites. Probably Huronian. 15

Quartzite or "Siliceous pebble" drift. Some almost homogeneous, some still saccharoidal, some almost chert in character, others banded with black & grey strat lines. Colours brownish, yellowish, purplish, blackish-grey 159
