to try & reach the Monument by the Kootanie Pass & old Boundary trail routes.

Geol Noted in a general way the rocks appearing in the valley.

About 4 m up the valley a thick bed of contemporaneous amygdaloidal trap is seen overlying the limestone, large fragments of it have fallen into the valley. The capping of the mountain on the right hand is here of fawn coloured beds which overlie the trap. Dip of the whole westward at low angles.

A little beyond this point a brook runs into the main valley & appears to come in a general direction of S7"E mag.
About 9 miles from camp cross the watershed Mt Yarrel appears to be formed of similar beds to those already seen. A great mass of which including red beds & limestone are there tilted up to the N.E. at an angle of about 45"
