This afternoon I ordered the whole troop to disrobe and bathe in a middling hot spring, red flannels got a washing as did some choicer hides which had not seen water since leaving Wallula [Washington]. One of the sullen resenfful dirtier troopers was sent cartwheeling into this mild caldron by eager hands; this prude left his underwear on. The boys tore this off, claiming that the seam squirrels needed an airing.
