In 1990 Blakiston's bird skins were in storage at the Botanical Garden of the Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan
Laid out and looking so lifeless it was easy to imagine how impressed Blakiston must have been with the life-like taxidermy Charles Waterton carried out at his English estate.
