A third volume of Sketchbook IV on Thomas Blakiston was presented to the Waterton Natural History Association in September 1994.
In 1858, while exploring the Canadian Rockies looking for a suitable route for a railway, Blakiston became the first known European to visit Waterton Lakes National Park. He named it after Charles Waterton a renowned naturalist of the time.
