Patrick Gass Election



		This was the first election by European Americans west of the Mississippi . Balloting was held at the night's camp, near Elk Point, South Dakota The area is visible as you look across the Missouri from Ponca State Park


				Patrick Gass who lived until 1870 and was almost 100 became the last surviving member of the expedtion.
