In the morning we walked past the monument to Taras Shchevchenko, one of the greatest writers of the Ukraine near the hotel entrance and had a minitour of the surrounding area.

Is this the Scotia Bank?
Later we were picked up by a representative of Global Quest and taken to our ship — the "Zosima Shashkov" a.k.a. "Peter the Great."
We spent a few hours getting acquainted and were then off for a walk through a nearby park.
To finish the day we had a lecture on Russian lacquer boxes which are made of black-lacquered paper-maché and decorated with intricate designs based on Russian folklore or history.
