The Uummannaq District is located about half-way up the west coast of Greenland, 590 km north of the Arctic Circle. The main community, also called Uummannaq, is located on the far side of the island. The island is dominated by an 1175-meter high mountain, "Hjertefjeldet" which means"Heartshaped Mountain".
