New Experiences

June 21, 2008 — Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia

After passing through the Russian immigration "booth" and showing our passport to the officials we loaded into Russian "big trucks" and drove into the countryside to Sergy's Husky Dog Kennel, the Siberian K9 Lodge. On arrival we watched a husky dog demonstration and then had a nature walk before enjoying a typical Russian lunch. The dogs — they had a rest.

After lunch we got into the 6-wheel drive Russian trucks and worked our way up the Avachinsky volcano then hiked. We had been warned that it would be cold but it turned out to be the hottest day to date.

At 7 we had the local Koryak people perform traditional nomadic dances in costume.

Forty six more people arrived as 23 left today.
