Beauty in the Wild

June 19, 2008 — Russkaya Bay, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia

We were supposed to go into Russkaya Bay, a 6 mile long fiord the longest in Russia but it was too cloudy to see anything so we went ashore in the morning (I stayed behind to catch up on my journal — enjoying the scenery from our window) and cruised the fiord looking for bears in the afternoon. Later, it was so clear we took a Zodiac tour to see the sea otters and Steller sea lions and seals and Steller sea eagles.

Then we had the Captain's farewell cocktail party much of it out on deck watching for bears and eagles. Weather-wise it was about the nicest day we had had so far.
