Welcome Back!

We're so glad you're here with us! Since we can't see you in person, we want to introduce ourselves and tell you how we're here to support you!

Dr. Jackie Rice

Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs and Associate Vice President Research

My role as Dean includes supporting and guiding all of the programs and activities undertaken by University of Lethbridge graduate students as well as being an advocate, both within and beyond the university, for our graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.  I oversee the university’s budget for graduate awards, and I sign off on Request for Award of Degree forms – one of the last forms that you’ll submit as a graduate student!  I enjoy reading your theses and dissertations and hearing about your work.

Dr. Helen Kelley

Associate Dean, School of Graduate Studies

My position includes a variety of duties and responsibilities such as facilitating initiatives for advancing the graduate student experience, approving graduate students’ program milestones and related forms, shepherding policies and procedures through the approval processes, and assisting with the development and implementation of new graduate programs.   Activities related to graduate student experience include programming and planning for New Graduate Student Orientation, the optional THRIVE – Professional Skills Program for Graduate Students, and the My Experience Transcript (i.e., tool to track students’ participation in experiential learning and professional development activities).  I look forward to meeting you and learning more about your experiences and needs.

Greta Vardazaryan

Hello all graduate students! Welcome to the Fall 2020 term! As part of my role I oversee day-to-day administrative operations in the office, SGS budget and strategic initiatives that enhance student services.

Fall 2020 is definitely going to be different than what we all expected before but we are here to support you at every step of the way! All continuing students, we are so excited to have you back while you continue your graduate student journey. For all those new students who are joining us this term I’d like to virtually welcome you now and hope to see you all on campus soon! Have a great term EVERYONE!

Deirdre Coburn

Graduate Awards Advisor

One of my key roles is to manage the graduate scholarships and graduate assistantship portfolios.  This entails facilitating the internal awards from the application stage through to setting up payments to graduate student.  I am also the liaison between external funding agencies and the University to help our graduate students be successful in applying for and receiving funding that exist outside of the University.  Graduate assistantship positions are another way our graduate students are funding so my role manages these funds, ensuring payments are set up accordingly.

Viviana Lartiga

Program Specialist

Part of my role encompasses assisting grad students from the moment they start their program to when they graduate. That encompasses advising students on meeting their program and degree requirements prior to graduation. I provide information, interpretation, advice (confidentially), and support regarding university graduate regulations and agreements. I act as the first point of contact for potential graduate applicants, registered students and faculty members with respect to the MA, most MSc, and most PhD programs.
