Non-Credit Credentials

Career & Personal Development Non-Credit Certificate 

For your continued growth, The School of Graduate Studies has begun to offer Non-Credit Certificates to support the development of non-technical skills for use in employment settings. 

The skills these certificates develop support roles both inside and outside of academia to ensure graduate students at the University of Lethbridge are provided with a competitive advantage as they enter the job market.


 

Career & Personal Development Certificate Learning Outcomes: 

Graduate students and post-docs who complete the non-credit credential will gain: 

  • Increased understanding of career development and holistic graduate student journey 
  • Increased understanding and knowledge of career skills and the value of participation in career development activities or experiences 
  • Develop skills to leverage this understanding and knowledge to seek opportunities to fill career skills and gaps 
  • Knowledge and tools for students to use to translate their skills, knowledge, abilities, and experiences to their intended audience
  • Knowledge and tools for students to use to take their own ownership and manage their own career journey, using relevant and realistic goals to identify and develop towards their career goal

 

Certificate Requirements: 
  • Register through MyExperience  for SGS Professional Development: Career & Personal Development
    • See instructions below
  • Register and attend Introduction to Graduate Professional Development offered by the School of Graduate Studies Professional Development* 
  • Participate in a minimum of five events, experiences, workshops, or activities 
    • submission of the participation form through MyExperience must be completed and validated 
  • All requirements must be completed within two years of registration 

* Please note If you have already completed Introduction to Graduate Professional Development offered by the School of Graduate Studies Professional Development, you will be required to complete one additional opportunity of your choice for a total of five. 


 

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Non-Credit Certificate 

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Certificate Learning Outcomes: 

Graduate Students and post-docs who complete the non-credit credential will gain: 

  • Increased understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • increased understanding and knowledge of historically, persistently, and systematically marginalized groups 
  • Develop skills to leverage this understanding and knowledge to build empathy and compassion and address issues of inequity 
  • Knowledge and tools for students when engaging with marginalized groups 
  • Knowledge and tools for students to use in the classroom and the workplace to ensure an inclusive and safe environment

  • Register and attend Introduction to Graduate Professional Development offered by The School of Graduate Studies Professional Development*

What events, experiences, workshops, or activities are appropriate? 

Any activity that meets four out of five learning outcomes listed above. 

To ensure the program meets the changing needs of both the market and the goals of graduate students and post-docs, we have created the certificate based on any opportunity completed aligning with the learning outcomes. 

What we mean is this program is customized to what you want to participate in based on your goals, schedule, interests, and skill development needs. 


 

How to register for the non-credit certificates
  • Login to your MyExperience Account
  • On the left-hand menu click on Campus Programs
  • Under "Programs Available for Enrollment" find SGS Professional Development: Career & Personal Development or SGS Professional Development: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and click enroll
  • Register in one or both certificates
